Barriers to Building Information Modeling (BIM) Deployment in Small Construction Projects: Malaysian Construction Industry

Building information modeling (BIM) application in construction projects is considered beneficial for effective decision making throughout the project lifecycle, as it maximizes benefits without compromising practicality. The Malaysian industry also keen on adoption of BIM culture. However, various identified and unidentified barriers are hindering its practical implementation. In light this, this study analyzed critical obstacles to using small projects. Through use semi-structured interviews a pilot exploratory factor analysis (EFA) method, (CBBs) have been identified. Based findings EFA, CBBs were classified into five categories, i.e., technical barrier, behavioral implementation management digital education barrier. Following questionnaire survey, feedback 235 professionals was collected with vested interests business, model created moment structures (AMOS). revealed that although experts little experience practice fairly educated about BIM, barriers, hurdles adopting BIM. study’s will help policymakers eliminate Malaysia’s modest save costs, time, boost productivity, improve quality sustainability.
